Building hope: the youth festival in Drôme-Ardèche

On May 30 and 31 at the VVF Sud Vercors in Die, the very first edition of the “Building Hope” festival took place: a time for young people to meet to connect, get inspired and act together…

This festival offered young people time for reflection and discussion around problems and issues for a desirable present and future in order to transform a feeling of powerlessness into the power to act. The clearly defined intentions were to:

  • help build hope and optimism
  • develop a perception and a critical view of the issues in today's world
  • transform feelings of helplessness and fear into power to act
  • promote conviviality

and this thanks to a plural approach, that is to say:

  • provides a space for reflection and action
  • helping young people to become aware of what makes sense for them
  • learn to connect with the present
  • promote individual and collective expression of emotions to create conditions conducive to the emergence of joy
  • based on concrete lived experiences to strengthen motivation and enable positive engagement

On the program: my emotions facing the world, looking at things, moving forward, forest bathing, me, others and the world – a whole theater, move your chosen one, slam workshops, a fairer world, the world at play , fire without smoke, young people forced into exile, theatrical improvisation and letting go, dance, water awareness, butterflies vs eco-anxiety, cooking, Eliott young multi-committed, mosaic world, etc.

« Move your chosen one! »: 3 elected officials from the area were questioned by around ten young people during a round table live on RDWA radio. We thank Justine DANCHIN, elected in Luc-en-Diois, Olivier Royer, regional advisor – Environmentalists and Agnès JAUBERT, departmental advisor for their presence. Other elected officials were present on site to interact with the participants, including Christian Chabert, elected in Livron, Fabienne Soudé, elected in Die & Sébastien Choupas, elected in Aouste-sur-Sye.

During the engaged breakfast, young people in civic service engaged in community life and activists shared their experience, thank you for their sharing the volunteers of La Chignole - Paulette's laboratory - Archijeux - The gold of Bennes - Acadia - Gem Air Libre - The restaurants of the Heart - The archipelago & Saint Jacques School.

A meeting with stakeholders in the ecological and social transition was organized, thank you for their presence and their rich exchanges Aplomb - Dwatts - Biclou & Parcel - Serge Krier - SMRD - Dromolib - Everyday Ecology - Social food security - Meals from Die - Tin'Oa Naturascop - Free routes - Treasure Area & Artisans of the World.

A success. This is evidenced by what many young people have told us about it and also the feedback from the teaching teams. As for us facilitators and/or volunteers who came to the rescue, I think I can say that we experienced warm and meaningful moments. I would like to emphasize what an excellent opportunity it was to get out of a situation in which some people would like to keep us. When we meet with young people in simple and natural settings, when we take the opportunity to "feel" this nature and to establish simple and authentic relationships between generations and between everyone, when the party, the game, the music, mutual aid... bring together there is a very simple expression of "well-being" which is the good first step to imagine sobriety... no offense to the grumpy people. _ Jean-Louis VIRAT, association Everyday Ecology

First episode: express yourself!

Second episode: cooperate!

The students had the chance to experience an ambitious moment (from the workshops offered to the preparation of meals through the festive moments), constructed from start to finish with a lot of intelligence and finesse in relation to the issues taken into account: those of an awareness of the world in which they live and what they can act on to transform it into something better. Certainly the future belongs to them, but the adults that we are have this duty, I am convinced, to help them understand what each person can do at their own level to live in harmony with their neighbors and act at their individual level. and collective to build a positive vision of the future. They had the chance to meet many adults involved in multiple causes, and at the same time who converged towards the same objective of discovery of oneself and others, of dialogue, of building confidence to do somewhat galvanizing things. I also appreciated the discussion between peers, between young people who offered workshops to other young people. And finally I always admire the ability of young people from MFR to speak freely with adults and elected officials. _ Sabine Berkovicius, Union Nationale MFR
