The Skills Union in action: Cooperation and innovation for an agile labor market

On March 5, 2025, the European Commission unveiled the Skills Union, a major initiative that is one of its first strategic measures. Launched within the first 100 days of the mandate, it follows the adoption of the Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal, thus underscoring the crucial importance of skills for economic growth and the sustainability of the European model.

In a constantly evolving European context, skills are key to meeting the needs of a dynamic and inclusive labor market. The Skills Union, the European Union's flagship strategy, offers a holistic approach that transcends sectoral and national barriers to structure a common vision of learning and skills development. In this context, the Erasmus+ KA220 program presents itself as an essential tool for cooperation and innovation in education and training.

The KA220 program, which supports transnational strategic partnerships, perfectly meets the ambitions of the Skills Union by focusing on several key areas. It helps develop the skills needed for quality jobs and lives by creating and sharing innovative teaching tools and methods to strengthen the capabilities of individuals at all levels of training. It also promotes the improvement and reskilling of an agile workforce by networking European partners to exchange best practices, anticipate skills needs, and offer learning paths adapted to transformations in the labor market.

By facilitating the mobility and circulation of skills, this program allows education and training stakeholders to co-construct solutions that guarantee the recognition and promotion of skills across borders. Furthermore, by structuring strong cooperation, KA220 contributes to developing attractive training ecosystems adapted to the challenges of the future, thus strengthening the attraction and retention of talent.

Submitting a KA220 application with five European partners means choosing a collaborative and innovative approach to address the challenges posed by the Skills Union. This transnational network enables the pooling of resources and expertise to maximize the impact of implemented initiatives, a diversification of perspectives and approaches to enrich pedagogical and didactic content, and a consolidation of learning strategies so that they are adapted to a changing European labor market.

Supported by the European Commission, KA220 is an exceptional opportunity to develop innovative and transformative apprenticeship initiatives. By embracing this dynamic, education and training stakeholders can play a key role in transforming skills across Europe. Submitting a KA220 application is a decisive step toward a more skilled, resilient, and inclusive Europe. It's time to act together to build the future of skills in Europe!
